Draught proofing
We also draughtproof, this is a very efficent and cheap way of upgrading sliding sash windows than replacing them. This is done by changing the staff and parting beads and routing a groove into the top and meeting rail of the top sash and inserting a weather brush into the groove. Draughtproofing your sliding sash windows will cut down on draughts, rattles, outside noise and could cut heating bills drastically. When draught proofing a window it is advisable to have a service at the same time to ensure the sash window peforms to its full abillity.
Full Restoration.
We can fully restore sash windows by first removing the sashes and stripping all the paint from the sashes and box . After all the paint has been removed we will remove the putty and glass, the sashes and box is then sanded and primed/undercoated. The glass is then refitted, draughtproofing added to the sashes , the sashes are then refitted with new cords and draughtproofing staff and parting beads. Finally new catches and sash lifts are fitted, this restoration ensures your window will be in excellent condition for many years to come.
Sashlite Double Glazing.
It is now possible to double glaze traditional sash windows thanks to a product called sashlite. Sashlite is a slimmed down double glazing unit slimmed to 11mm (3,4,4) 12mm (4,4,4) for toughened units. The units are fitted with a low E glass and the cavity is filled with krypton gas this makes the units more efficent. By making the glazing rebate a little bigger it will fit into the origional sashes. The glazing is also fitted the traditional way with putty this means that the look of a traditional sash window is not lost because of unsightly glazing beads. Sashlite is a perfect way of upgrading sash windows into the 21 st century. By double glazing a sash window and then also adding draught proofing will make a sash window much more efficient.
